Audition Repertoire and Scheduling

For the Elementary, Intermediate, and High School (grades 9 – 11) auditions

REPERTOIRE

  • Students must play two pieces in contrasting style, one from each of the following two categories:

1.  Baroque or Classical

2.  Romantic, Impressionistic, or Contemporary

  • Both pieces must be memorized in their entirety

  • Both pieces must meet the standards as determined by the Foundation Board

for the student to be entered in the competition

  • No arrangements or transcriptions will be allowed

  • Repertoire may not be repeated from year to year

  • Please keep the time limits in mind when submitting repertoire

TIME LIMITS

  • Elementary – 8 minutes

  • Intermediate – 10 minutes

  • High School, grades 9-11, 12 minutes

For the High School Senior auditions

REPERTOIRE

  • Students must play three pieces, one from each of the following three categories:

1.  Baroque

2.  Classical Sonata Movement

3.  Romantic, Impressionistic, or Contemporary

  • All pieces must be memorized in their entirety

  • All pieces must meet the standards as determined by the Foundation Board for            the student to be entered in the competition

  • No arrangements or transcriptions will be allowed

  • Repertoire may not be repeated from year to year

  • Please keep the time limit in mind when submitting repertoire;

AWARD: High School Seniors are eligible to receive the Frances Danforth Award OR the High School Award, at the judges’ discretion

TIME LIMIT for High School Seniors – 18 minutes

SCHEDULING: Each level will be scheduled as a block at the Foundation’s discretion.  High School Seniors, however, will play immediately following the High School grades 9-11 level.
